8.6 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Indonesia
An 8.6 magnitude earthquake struck the northwestern part of Indonesia on Wednesday afternoon local time, prompting a tsunami watch that has since been lifted. At present, there have not been any confirmed reports of major destruction or casualties
In 2004, a 9.1 magnitude earthquake in the region caused a tsunami in the Indian Ocean, which killed more than 200,000 people in 14 countries, according to CNN.
