As three-quarters of a million people in Somalia face starvation, weather and security challenges continue to impede humanitarian response.

After months of drought, the rains have come in such force that some camps are being washed away in floods. Aid agencies are concerned about the potential outbreak of cholera and other waterborne diseases.

Compounding this, Kenyan troops have now crossed the border into Somalia in pursuit of the militants suspected of kidnapping two aid workers last week and injuring their driver. Somali militants have vowed to attack Kenya in response, raising concerns that an escalating conflict will further erode security in the area.
