The massive floods which started at the beginning of August continue to affect Pakistan. Current estimates are that over 20 million people have been directly affected. Humanitarian organizations are providing basics including clean water, medicine and shelter, to those that can be reached. An additional crisis is on the horizon as estimates show that the floods have rendered only 20% of the traditional farmland in Pakistan useable and planting season will end in November. InterAction members are responding to are distributing water, food and relief items, and providing medical care and temporary shelter; as well as working with communities to get crops planted where they are able before the winter starts. InterAction has developed guidelines on the most appropriate ways to help those affected by overseas disasters.
