"Ken’s passing is a tremendous loss for the U.S.-based alliance of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) focused on improving the lives of the world’s poor and most vulnerable people. He articulated our shared moral obligation to focus on the issues of justice and respect for those driven from their homes by conflict or disaster. Ken’s work as an activist on Darfur, Iraq and sites of other grave humanitarian crises influenced government policy and prompted action by international agencies. He was a leading proponent of the Responsibility to Protect, an international security and human rights principle adopted by the World Summit in 2005, which called for new solutions to address global threats. Ken’s former career as a Pentagon spokesman led to an interest in peacekeeping forces, and he monitored their mandates, funding and conduct closely.
At InterAction, Ken was a very active member of our Board of Directors for many years. His accessibility and support made him an absolute pleasure to work with.
InterAction and its member organizations will miss his clear thinking, his passion and his humor."
