Muhammad Yunus to speak at closing session of InterAction Forum

Muhammad Yunus will be the keynote speaker at the closing luncheon of the InterAction Forum. The topic of the session will be, "Shaping and Protecting the Environment to Do Our Work." Yunus, founder and managing director of Grameen Bank, is recognized as the father of microcredit and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his efforts to improve economic and social development.

After months of attacks, Yunus made headlines in March 2011 when the Bangladesh government fired him from his position at Grameen bank. The government cited legal violations and an age limit on his position. Yunus and Grameen Bank claim that decision was politically motivated, and are appealing it.

Yunus has been instrumental in lifting people worldwide out of poverty by pioneering the use of microcredit with the poor.

He received his B.A. and M.A. in Economics at Dhaka University in Bangladesh. A Fulbright scholar, he earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Vanderbilt University.

Online registration for the forum ends Friday, July 15.
