Myanmar Confirms Election Results

Myanmar’s government announced on Tuesday that the National League for Democracy (NLD) won 43 of 44 seats for which they fielded candidates. International observers describe last Sunday’s elections as fair and peaceful.

Aung San Suu Kyi, leader of the NLD, said that she will continue to speak out for reform and work toward reconciliation with other political parties, according to CNN.  Suu Kyi and the NLD won multiparty elections in 1990, but were prevented by the military from taking power.
