Pakistan is at the forefront of U.S. national security interests. To date, a key highlight of U.S. assistance has been the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) generous and dedicated effort to aid millions of Pakistanis displaced within their own country. However, only with a sustained and consistent investment in humanitarian assistance and long-term development will U.S. support truly address the conditions that perpetuate poverty, insecurity and instability in the country.

We applaud the Obama administration’s new approach to improving its direct connection with the Pakistani people by expanding its public diplomacy effort to maximize the impact of U.S. development strategy and improve local perceptions of international aid. Its commitment to the rights of women and its recognition of their significant role in the development of Pakistani society should also be commended.

In Recommendations for Implementation of Pakistan Assistance Strategy, InterAction outlines key highlights and recommendations the administration should consider as it moves forward with implementing its strategy in Pakistan. Read the full report here.
