UN Requests to Send More Aid Workers to Syria

The United Nations has asked the Syrian government to allow more humanitarian aid workers into the country. At least 1 million people are estimated to need assistance, and the International Committee of the Red Cross is the only aid organization currently allowed in Syria.
 
In a separate request, UNHCR has issued an appeal for $84 million to help 60,000 Syrian refugees in neighboring countries. So far, only about one-fifth of the appeal has been met.
