The UN Human Rights Council established a mandate for a special rapporteur on the promotion of truth, justice, reparation and guarantees of nonrecurrence of serious crimes and violations of human rights.
The special rapporteur will gather relevant information and make recommendations on national situations relating to the promotion of:
- truth,
- justice,
- reparation, and
- guarantees that gross violations of human rights and international humanitarian law will not recur.
The council requested the special rapporteur to report annually to the Human Rights Council and the General Assembly.
