Upcoming G20 spurs calls to include development
The latest G20 summit happens at the end of this week, Nov. 3-4, in Cannes, France. Leading up to the summit, calls to include development are mounting.
InterAction’s president & CEO, Sam Worthington, says, "The challenge for the G20 is, can they see beyond the immediate crisis to what is needed to ensure broader prosperity?" International NGOs and their partners fear that the latest developments in the European debt crisis will dampen the summit attendees’ will to tackle food price volatility, a potential financial transaction tax, and other ideas to promote growth in developing countries.
In addition to concerns about the Europena debt crisis, America's own domestic issues and debt reduction efforts may also push development off the agenda.
