Urban Refugees Use Creativity on Road to Self-Reliance

(Nairobi) June 15, 2013 — The nephew and daughter-in-law of a refugee from Rwanda make sandals June 14, 2013, in the home the tree share in Nairobi. The hand-crafted sandals will be sold via the the Jesuit Refugee Service Mikono Craft Shop in Nairobi. JRS opened the shop in 1993 to help refugees in the city become self-reliant by marketing their products. Over the years, many refugees have been able to meet their daily needs with the income earned through the shop. Learn more about Mikono at http://www.jrsea.org/mikono and learn more about JRS service to urban refugees here: http://jrsusa.org/urban
