InterAction,
Global Leadership Campaign Host Budget Briefing
On February
20, InterAction and The Global Leadership Campaign co-hosted a congressional
briefing on the FY 2005 International Affairs Budget request. The
briefing featured presentations by Larry Nowels of Congressional Research
Service, Nisha Desai of InterAction, and Jason Gross of U.S. Global
Leadership Campaign. Mary E. McClymont, President of Interaction,
acted as moderator for the briefing.
Nowels provided
an analysis of the FY2005 foreign operations request in the context
of historical trends and looked at the impact of key initiatives on
overall development assistance. Desai presented analysis on the core
development and humanitarian assistance accounts, noting that increases
for specific initiatives seemed to be coming at the expense of core
programs. Finally Gross focused on the relationship and important
of the international affairs budget with respect to US national security.
