Collaborative
Development Initiatives
While
individual nongovernmental organizations have many examples of effective
relief and development programs in the field, there is less public
information about the work they do on a large scale collaborative
basis. There are two mechanisms for this type of collaborative assistance:
Umbrella Grants, in which one agency acts as the manager and
lead on a portfolio of activities carried out by several groups; and
Cooperative Agreements, where awards are made to multiple agencies
to deliver a coordinated set of activities throughout a country or
region. Below are just a few of the successful initiatives launched
by groups of NGOs, undertaking projects that few of them could do
alone and achieve these types of high-impact results.
