Catholic Relief Services's Response to Crisis in Ivory Coast and Liberia

Operational Summary: 
CRS will support Ivorian refugees in Liberia with the construction of 1,000 shelters in eight villages, providing housing for 5,000 refugees.CRS has also constructed a way station that can host 100 refugee families at a time in New Yourpea, Liberia. The way station provides a 2 to 3 day respite for refugees transferred from border towns or the UNHCR refugee camp in Bonn. CRS is also assisting Liberian host communities and the refugee families staying with them to prepare land to grow rice. The program will provide incentives to rehabilitate swampland and use tools, seeds, and rice production training to increase their food security. The program is targeted at 15,000 people (refugees and hosts) in 15 communities.
