HelpAge USA's Response to Horn Of Africa Drought Crisis
Operational Summary:
In response to the East Africa crisis, HelpAge is working with local partners and NGOs, to ensure older people get access to appropriate emergency food aid and safe water in drought stricken households in Ethiopia and Northern Eastern Kenya. We have provided direct cash transfers to older people to purchase food for their family and provide livestock feed for their animals. HelpAge has distributed portable water storage equipment and water purification tablets to older people and is currently constructing latrines. We have formed community health centers that are accessible to older people and distibuted mobility aids to ensure older people can reach available aid, sanitation, and shelter.
