Medical Emergency Relief International (Merlin)'s Response to Horn Of Africa Drought Crisis
Operational Summary:
Merlin has worked in the East Africa region for over 14 years & currently offer direct, free healthcare, nutrition, hygiene & sanitation to over 1,702,000 people (485,000 Kenya, 637,000 Ethiopia & 580,000 Somalia). Since June 2011, Merlin has scaled up its operations dramatically, more than doubling capacity. We now support 101 outreach sites & health facilities in Kenya, 77 in Somalia & over 260 in Ethiopia. We care for everyone, giving priority to children under 5, pregnant & nursing women. We also build latrines, supply safe drinking water & initiate waste management projects. To improve health care in the long term, there are ongoing health training programs for national & local staff.
