Diversity
Initiatives
InterAction's
Diversity Initiative is committed to providing assistance and support
to members as they seek to initiate, manage or sustain their individual
diversity strategies. Using a collaborative model designed to build on
the collective knowledge existing within the NGO sector, in conjunction
with the body of knowledge gained from other sectors (corporate, government,
education), we provide resources to support our members regardless of
where they are in the change process. The approaches used will include:
Technical
Support and Assistance is available to those seeking to integrate
diversity principles into work processes and business decisions, and develop
skills necessary to sustaining an environment of inclusion, accountability
and commitment. In addition to providing advice and best practices gathered
from other sectors, technical workshops will be convened annually to enable
member agency staff to upgrade their knowledge and skills in a particular
area. The 2003 workshop was "Taking Your Organization to the Next
Level: Becoming a Diversity Change Agent." Upcoming 2004 workshops
will target "Staffing for Success: Increasing the Minority Candidate
Pool," and "Developing a Diversity Strategic Plan."
Information
Clearinghouse activities provide members with access to consistent,
timely, on going and informative communication regarding diversity. Communication
regarding best practices, resources, events and workshops will be dispersed
through the use of brochures, online discussion groups, roundtables, conference
calls, and regular updates. Our role is to inform members on current issues
regarding diversity programs within the PVO sector, coordinate activities
and share best practices across members and the sector.
The Diversity
Working Group is a mechanism for peer learning and for broadening
the impact of diversity within member organizations and the PVO community.
Participants come from all levels and functions within our member organizations
and are interested or engaged in diversity work. They receive updates,
information and resources from InterAction.
The Online
Community provides a peer learning forum for members of the Working
Group to share thoughts, ideas and information on their respective diversity
activities and to support one another's efforts. The community includes
a secure document archive, contacts list, and events calendar, and an
email-based listserve.
Conference
Calls are held monthly and provide members opportunities to dialogue
around the strategies, challenges and best practices regarding diversity
in the workplace and in international development activities. Upcoming
topics include: Creating Diverse Candidate Pools; Developing the Business
Case for Diversity; Defining Diversity; and Addressing Challenges to Diversity.
