Access to education remains crucial in ensuring a sound future for Haiti and providing opportunities for
current and future generations. Before the January 12, 2010 earthquake, 55 percent of school-age
children were not in school and 81% had never received a secondary education. Post earthquake
estimates indicated that at least $700 million was needed to help rebuild schools. Despite progress made
in a number of areas, many families still cannot afford to send their children to school.
