Plan has worked in Haiti since 1973 and, with 143 staff already on the ground, was able to respond quickly when the devastating earthquake struck.

As homeless children and families poured into makeshift camps, our staff and volunteers provided 18,000 of them with food in the first weeks. Emergency supplies were also prepared by Plan staff in the neighboring Dominican Republic, and a vital shipment of Plan aid was one of the first agency deliveries to arrive in the southern town of Jacmel, where 60% of buildings were damaged or destroyed.

Our immediate response included: family survival kits, water and sanitation, shelter, health, bringing vital knowledge and support, and a focus on youth, girls and child friendly spaces.
