Land ownership and tenure issue are still obstacles as Haiti recovers from the January 12, 2010
earthquake. Despite these obstacles in improving housing and shelter, there has been progress since the
earthquake. The number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in camps has decreased by two-thirds since
the earthquake, from over 1.5 million to about 520,000. However, the number of camps threatened by
eviction fluctuates and remains a challenge.
