InterAction watched with interest this week President Obama’s speech on troop levels in Afghanistan. With much of the attention centered on the aspects of the security transition, the face of long-term development in Afghanistan remains to be seen. In testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Thursday Secretary of State Hillary Clinton noted that the U.S. will be “shifting [its] efforts from short-term stabilization projects…to longer-term sustainable development.” A summary of this hearing is included in the Update below, along with hearings on Southern Sudan, Haiti, Iraq and Burma.
