Two years ago, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti, killing at least 220,000 people and leaving 1.5 million homeless. The human toll of the January 12, 2010 quake was immeasurable and the damage devastating in a nation where the average family lived off less than $1 a day. Since the earthquake, there has been some progress in rebuilding people’s lives and putting communities back together.

More than 100 of InterAction’s member organizations have contributed to emergency and reconstruction efforts, working on shelter, water, education, health, infrastructure and many other projects which are highlighted on InterAction’s innovative mapping platform. Click on the map below to see these projects.

There are still many challenges in post-earthquake Haiti. Among the most pressing are land tenure issues, forced evictions from the remaining camps and rubble removal, which has picked up pace in recent months but still remains an obstacle.

Look at InterAction’s web page at the 18 month mark since the earthquake and six months into relief efforts.
