UNESCO/Keizo Obuchi Research Fellowship Programme
UNESCO is calling on young
researchers with advanced degrees (M.A., M.Sc. or equivalent) in
developing countries to apply to the UNESCO/Keizo Obuchi Research
Fellowship Programme for fellowships ranging from US$ 6,000 to US$
10,000. The amount varies according to duration and place of study.
The Program is financed by Japan through its funds in trust program
for capacity-building of human resources. The
Programme is named after the late Japanese Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi,
who was known for his commitment to furthering development. It grants
a total of 20 fellowships a year to researchers in four areas: environment,
intercultural dialogue, information and communication technologies,
and peaceful conflict resolution.

interns and volunteers
e-Development
Services Thematic Group of the World Bank is looking for virtual
interns and volunteers to support a number of research and knowledge
development activities in the ICT for Development area. This internship
will provide an opportunity to learn about cutting edge international
development issues and network with professionals in these areas.
We expect that this virtual internship/online volunteer assignment
will last at least 3-6 months and 5-10 hours per week. The internship

The African Youth Foundation Scholarship
Award for ICT and Agriculture
The AYF Youth Award is a new annual educational scholarship
award, which will be awarded to an African Youth, between the ages of
18 and 30, starting 2004/2005 academic year. To win this award, a Youth
Project writing Contest on "ICT and Agriculture" will elicit
and disseminate the views of African young people on the needs and benefits
of ICT and Agriculture in Africa. Applicants should consider how ICTs
could help their generation and nation to create jobs and eradicate poverty.
The deadline for submitting papers is: 20th September 2004. Project papers
could be submitted via email to the secretariat at: info@ayf.de or ayf-info@t-online.de.
The contributions of all contest winners will be published in a booklet
by the AYF.
OSISA Information and Communication Technology Program Call for Proposals
The Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA, http://www.osisa.org)
formally launched its new Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
Program Guidelines. We hereby invite organisations to engage with OSISA
on developing effective proposal for ICT s and Development in Southern

Objectives of the Alcan Prize for Sustainability
• Recognize and reward not-for-profit, civil society or non-governmental
organizations that have made and continue to make significant contributions to
integrating economic, environmental, and social sustainability for the benefit
of present and future generations.
• Advance and increase awareness of local, regional, national or international
not-for-profit, civil society or non-governmental organizations engaged in sustainable
activities.
• Foster a legacy of sustainability by supporting the work of Prize recipients
and enhancing their ability to build capacity and have a further impact in the
future.
• Communicate sustainability practices and programs through the collection
and promotion of examples.
