The 2009 Summit brought together a multi-disciplinary group of journalists, media educators, development and humanitarian practitioners, donors, and media decision makers to discuss what the future holds for comprehensive foreign news coverage after budget cutbacks at major media outlets.
Attendees discussed the following topics during the day-long event that featured a keynote address by Anne Curry of NBC News:

Fred Guterl – Assistant managing editor of NEWSWEEK International
He is in charge of developing the magazine's presence on the Web and also directs the magazine's coverage of science, technology and the environment.
Solana Larsen – Managing editor of Global Voices Online
She was an editor with openDemocracy for 5 years and headed the New York office. Solana contributes regularly to national radio and other media, and has been a collaborator in numerous global internet activism projects.
William M. Abrams – President of the Trickle Up Program, in New York
Mr. Abrams joined Trickle Up following a career as a senior executive and journalist for the New York Times, ABC News and The Wall Street Journal.
Femi Oke – Senior Editor of The Takeaway, a unique partnership of global news leaders -- PRI (Public Radio International) and WNYC Radio in collaboration with the BBC World Service, The New York Times and WGBH Boston
Femi was a former anchor at CNN International.
Edith Grace Ssempala – Director of international affairs for the World Bank Group
Prior to her appointment, she served for more than 21 years as Uganda’s top diplomat across the world, most recently as Ugandan permanent representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa

Charles Sennott – Executive Editor and Vice President of GlobalPost
An award-winning journalist and author with a distinguished career in international reporting for both print and broadcast news organizations.
Josh Friedman – Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and director of International Programs at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism
He has covered conflicts in the Balkans, Beirut, Israel and Africa. Friedman was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for international reporting in 1985 for his coverage of the famine in Ethiopia.
Deborah Jones – Executive Producer for Common Ground Productions
She created and produced the NBC television series, Amazing Grace, and has written numerous television movies for NBC, CBS, ABC, and the cable networks.
Scott Malcomson – editor on foreign affairs at the New York Times Magazine
Scott Malcomson has edited foreign coverage for the New York Times Magazine since 2004. Malcomson is the author of numerous books and was a senior advisor to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
