Director, Global Partnerships
InterAction is seeking a Director for Global Partnerships to lead its overall efforts in NGO diplomacy and work with other NGO coalitions around the globe to collectively influence intergovernmental public policy making processes focusing on issues of shared interest. S/he is InterAction’s in-house manager and expert on several strategic and collaborative relationships including but not limited to sister NGO coalitions, multilateral and bilateral development agencies, and selected USG development agencies on specific topics. These relationships aim to advance InterAction’s overarching goal of enhancing NGO practices and the policy environment in which NGOs operate. They also seek to bridge policy advocacy and field realities as a way to highlight NGOs’ comparative advantage as development actors. S/he is part of the Strategic Impact Team and also serves as a member of InterAction’s senior Leadership Team. S/he reports to the Vice President for Strategic Impact. InterAction is a team-based organization and emphasizes working cooperatively and collaboratively with other InterAction staff in support of the work of the entire organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership and direction on a range of existing relationships addressing specific development issues including aid and development effectiveness, including relationships with multilateral and bilateral institutions, as well as collaboration with other NGO coalitions and CSO networks.
- Lead InterAction’s Aid Effectiveness Working Group.
- Coordinate linkages between InterAction’s domestic advocacy in the US and relevant collective NGO advocacy efforts at the global level.
- Represent InterAction in the US and abroad at key meetings, panels, and conferences.
- Initiate and manage fundraising for specific initiatives.
- Manage on-going program activities and budgets.
- Contribute to organization-wide strategic thinking, planning, and implementation.
- Engage in direct outreach to congressional staff, meet with Executive branch officials from the State Department, USAID, and the White House, and work closely with InterAction ’s member NGOs to turn their field-based humanitarian and development expertise into concrete proposals for strengthening U.S. foreign assistance programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least fifteen years experience working in international development both overseas and in US, with a nonprofit organization, government, or research institution, including experience with NGO engagement in multilateral processes.
- French required; Spanish desirable.
- Good knowledge of issues such as bilateral and multilateral foreign assistance, trade and development, Northern and Southern NGO partnerships, and monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment of NGO programs.
- Solid understanding of the programs, roles, and strengths of, and challenges facing US NGOs, other international NGOs, local NGOs, and NGO networks.
- Well versed in current development frameworks and processes, including the MDGs, Aid/Development Effectiveness, and Financing for Development.
- Excellent speaking, writing, and cross cultural skills essential.

Senior Public Policy Associate
InterAction seeks a Senior Public Policy Associate to work on a variety of international development and humanitarian policy issues, with a strong focus on reforming and modernizing the architecture of U.S. foreign assistance. The Senior Public Policy Associate will report to the Senior Director of Public Policy and work closely with the Senior Director and InterAction’s CEO on special projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engage in direct outreach to congressional staff, meet with Executive branch officials from the State Department, USAID, and the White House, and work closely with InterAction’s member NGOs to turn their field-based humanitarian and development expertise into concrete proposals for strengthening U.S. foreign assistance programs.
- Contribute to the fast-paced work of the Public Policy Unit by providing executive-level support to the Senior Director of Public Policy. This will include managing high-level relationships with donors and other stakeholders, responding to urgent requests for information from congressional staff or Obama administration officials, writing and contributing to policy-related external communications, and other tasks as needed.
- Manage InterAction’s Task Force on Foreign Assistance Reform and will provide staff support to a similar CEO-level working group comprised of the executives of InterAction member CEOs.
- Represent InterAction at staff-level meetings of the Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network, a coalition comprised of international development and foreign policy practitioners, policy advocates and experts, concerned citizens and private sector organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Congressional experience and/or advocacy experience,
- Master’s degree or 2 years' commensurate experience,
- International experience, experience with humanitarian and/or development work,
- Excellent inter-personal skills, strong writing, policy analysis, research, and organizational skills, and
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks and prioritize.
- Knowledge of, or experience working with, USAID and the State Department is a plus.
