A Collaboration with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC) and FedEx
InterAction, BCLC and FedEx aim to dramatically increase transparency, facilitate partnerships, and improve coordination in a new mapping initiative. Using data gathered from the field, this web-based mapping platform will help NGOs and other actors make more informed decisions about where to direct their resources. This collaboration is being piloted in response to the Haitian Earthquake earthquake in Haiti and will be deployed in future emergency situations.
Using a model similar to recovery.gov, this mapping platform will allow users to upload project data, create maps, access more than 20,000 public data sets, e.g. UN and World Bank data, and create map overlays. InterAction will work closely with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working in Haiti to collect specific program information. This transparency will be a powerful tool toward greater, more flexible coordination within InterAction members, their partners, governments, the UN’s Office of the Special Envoy and civil society.
In addition, the mapping platform will provide aggregated information about the sectors, financing of member projects, amount spent and planned spending on reconstruction efforts where it is available. This information will be displayed through a variety of ways, e.g. best practices, graphs, charts, timelines, maps, etc. The goal is to develop an effective, flexible, sustainable method of capturing program data so that actors make more informed decisions about where to direct their resources in future humanitarian emergencies and other sectoral areas and countries.
We welcome your feedback on the prototype.
