InterAction Vice President Lindsay Coates spoke to Devex about the World Bank's new vision to help reduce extreme poverty to 3 percent and raise income of the poorest 40 percent of the population in each country by 2030. World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim proposed an integrated strategy to implement this goal. Coates told Devex that the "rhetoric is there" but only a strong political will would lead to concrete action.

Though global focus has shifted from the conflict in Mali, a great need remains. The UN estimates that more than 430,000 people have been displaced since 2012. InterAction's Julien Schopp said that the still-urget crisis had all but disappeared from the news and that the response to the entire crisis was "totally insufficient."

InterAction published a brief in response to proposed budget cuts that urged congress and the Obama administration to keep global health spending at current levels. InterAction's Danielle Heiberg stated that the goal of the brief was to raise awareness towards the benefits and advancements of foreign aid, as well as the potential consequences of a lack of funding.

Mark Lotwis, senior director of public policy at InterAction commented on President Barack Obama’s newly released budget proposal, saying that if implemented correctly, the proposal could  "meet the principles that NGOs have called for."

President Obama requested $52 billion in foreign aid and international spending in 2014. President of Interaction Samuel Worthington said that this amount--slightly higher than the current year’s budget--showed Obama’s "sustained overall commitment to poverty-focused development.” He also stated that the US needed to contiunue to be a strong presence in foreign aid. “Even in a time of belt-tightening, the U.S. must maintain its moral leadership in helping the world’s most poor and vulnerable,” he said.

Nonprofit groups that counsel sex workers overseas are split over a Supreme Court case challenging a law requiring all HIV/AIDS programs seeking federal money to include anti-prostitution policies. The 2003 law in question rejected funding for programs that focused on HIV/AIDs without specifically noting anti-sex work policy. InterAction has sided with the Alliance for Open Society International and Pathfinder International, claiming the right to free speech and noting that the law would interfere with programs in place that educate sex workers on safe practices to reduce the rate of HIV/AIDS infection.
