Women Thrive Worldwide
Statement of Purpose Women’s EDGE is a coalition of individuals and nonprofit organizations from around the world working to increase U.S. assistance to women and girls in developing countries and to ensure that complex international trade agreements do not harm people living in poor developing countries. Some of Women’s EDGE member organizations include CARE, the Christian Children’s Fund, Save the Children and Oxfam America.
Programs & Activities
Global Trade Program
The Global Trade program provides analysis, information and publications about the ways in which global trade agreements affect women, especially women living in poverty in developing countries. The Global Trade program advocates for alternative trade models that promote gender equity, human rights, and sustainable development.
International Development Program
The International Development Program works with women’s organizations in developing countries and with EDGE’s institutional members to increase overall U.S. development assistance and aid to women and girls, in particular. The program analyzes U.S. legislation for its impact on poor women and girls, develops policy proposals and engages in advocacy to achieve policy change.
Outreach Program
The Outreach Program increases the knowledge of interested citizens and encourages women to engage in the ongoing debate on international development and globalization. EDGE’s constituency-building trains women in the United States to become citizen advocates for better international policies.
Communications
The Communications Program encompasses all press and media outreach, regular publications (including Notes from the EDGE, a bi-monthly newsletter), and other projects that educate the media, decision makers, and U.S. citizens about Women’s EDGE, fair trade, international development, and the lives of women around the world. |
