Definitions of the Millennium Development Goals:
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are a set of eight development-focused goals, 21 identifiable targets, and 60 indicators to which world leaders agreed at the 2000 Millennium Summit in a global effort to, among other things, reduce extreme poverty and child mortality, empower women, combat epidemics such as HIV/AIDS, as well as foster a global partnership for addressing the world’s most vulnerable populations by the year 2015.
List of the Eight Goals:
Goal 1: Eradicate extreme hunger and poverty
Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education
Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women
Goal 4: Reduce child mortality
Goal 5: Improve maternal health
Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability
Goal 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development
