InterAction looks to the September 20-22, 2010 UN Millennium Development Goals Summit to address the progress of the eight goals set upon to slash poverty, hunger, child and maternal mortality, preventable disease, and other ills by a 2015 deadline. With only five years left to achieve them, "the summit will be a crucially important opportunity to redouble our efforts to meet the Goals," said Ban Ki-Moon, UN Secretary General.
189 countries -- the largest gathering of heads of state ever -- endorsed the goals at the 2000 United Nations Millennium Summit and committed to reach their achievements by 2015. Since that time, organizations across the globe have collaborated on campaigns to raise awareness of the critical importance of the goals, and to compel world leaders to fulfill their promises of additional quality funding, trade reform and debt cancellation to achieve the goals.
