US Committee for Refugees & Immigrants's Response to Syria Crisis

Operational Summary:

The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) is ensuring that the rights of refugees fleeing Syria are being respected. USCRI is monitoring developments on the Syria/Jordan border and advocating for sufficient levels of assistance & the protection of fundamental rights. Through its anti-warehousing campaign, USCRI offers alternative solutions to the refugee camp model: policies which emphasize local-based assistance to refugees. Such alternatives include capacity building for communities hosting urban refugees. In addition, USCRI spearheaded efforts to guarantee Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to Syrians residing in the United States.
