South Sudan on the Verge to Eliminating Polio

South Sudan’s efforts to provide vaccinations against polio have put the nation closer to eliminating the disease.  Volunteers have been involved in a national outreach campaign going door-to-door to immunize children under 6 years old.

“We are by now without a case for the last 32-plus months and hopefully, we will be able to say in four months South Sudan is polio free," Dr. Abdi Aden Mohamed, head of the World Health Organization in South Sudan, told Voice of America.

The campaign is collaboration with the South Sudanese government and the UN, and has immunized 3.2. million children in the country.
