InsideNGO's Facilitating Organizational Capacity Assessments: Participatory Processes that Lead to Partner Ownership and Realistic Planning
The international community is learning that partner participation in organizational capacity assessments is the cornerstones of designing effective multi-year organizational development plans that take root in the organization and lead to sustainable change. As a result, international partners are shifting from externally-driven prescriptive capacity assessments to more demand-driven assessment and learning processes. While numerous assessment tools are available for a variety of uses, the process by which those tools are used and how the results are used for planning can lead to either a deepened understanding of and commitment to act upon the results or a report that sits on the shelf.
