InterAction continues to monitor the situation in the Horn of Africa and advocate for the needs of the over 12 million people who have been affected by the drought that has engulfed the region. Furthermore, members of Congress drew public attention to the crisis with a hearing by the Senate Foreign Relations African Affairs Subcommittee on Wednesday and a House Hunger Caucus briefing yesterday. Find summaries of these events in the Update below.
Congress passed and President Obama signed the Budget Control Act of 2011 [1], legislation that addressed both the debt limit increase and deficit reduction, an in-depth analysis of which is in the Update below. See the analyses by InterAction members Bread for the World [2] and ONE [3] for supplementary information.
Because both chambers are in recess through the end of August, the next InterAction Weekly Update will not be published until in early September.
