Melanie Macdonald joined World Neighbors in 2004 as the organization’s first female president and chief executive officer. Prior to joining the organization, Macdonald was the principal of The Hopetown Group where she consulted with not-for-profit organizations and provided executive coaching to chief executive officers. Previously, she also served as the executive director of CUSO, the Canadian non-governmental version of the U.S. Peace Corps, where Macdonald oversaw a 30-country program. As the chief financial officer for the United Church of Canada, she coordinated a $50 million budget, oversaw a staff of 95 and delivered services to 4,000 member congregations. She also held roles as the chief administrative officer in the Township of Cavan, Ontario, Canada, and two executive posts within the YWCA in Peterborough and Toronto. Macdonald is a member of the Worldwide Association of Business Coaches. During her tenure at CUSO, she was elected chairperson of the International Development Executives’ Association. Melanie recently authored her first book, The Executive Woman’s Journal: a practical handbook for senior staff leaders of not-for-profits.
Macdonald earned a bachelor’s of arts degree from the University of Guelph, Canada, a bachelor’s degree in social work from McGill University in Montreal, and her Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers certification from St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Canada.

Working Groups are a central part of the way InterAction supports and aids its members. Working Groups are first and foremost a place for member agencies to share information that is important to them in several ways:
- by providing a way for member organizations to share information about field-based issues, concerns, and topics;
- by serving as a place for members to receive training and to share best practices with each other; and
- by offering a space for members to develop new products and materials on a given topic.
Working Groups are member driven and supported by InterAction staff (with the exception of a few non-staffed working groups). Members identify an interest, issue area, or need around which they feel their collective voices will clarify or strengthen responses. Depending on the number of member organizations interested, a meeting or consultation is planned to explore the topic and allow members to share their issues and concerns. Such consultations or exploratory meetings may lead to the formation of an on-going Working Group.
InterAction's current working groups are described below. For more information on a specific working group, contact the group's staff contact.
