About the Protection Working Group
The InterAction
Protection Working Group has evolved from the Protection of Displaced
Children Working Group, established in October 2002, which focused on
activities around the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse of
children in humanitarian crises. Under its initial work plan, the group
served to assist members in the development of codes of conduct and
policies addressing the prevention of sexual exploitation, the sharing
of best practices, and the development of a collection of resource materials
on refugee protection.

The scope of
the working group has since expanded to address broader protection
issues, including the role of NGOs in protection, the incorporation
of protection in the design, planning, and implementation of humanitarian
assistance programs and evaluation, and the protection needs of
internally displaced persons (IDPs), while maintaining a specific
focus on the protection of women and children.
