The primary objectives of the Protection Working Group include:

  • Engaging NGOs, international agencies, donors and governments in approaches that incorporate protection mechanisms into multi-sectoral program planning, design and implementation;

  • Exploring the role for NGO participation in providing protection in the field with a particular focus on women, children and other vulnerable groups;

  • Expanding current thinking around protection, going beyond legal and physical protection, to include a focus on prevention and the reduction of emotional and social risk;

  • Examining the on-the-ground impact of current initiatives in the area of protection of internally displaced persons and the role of US government and international agencies in these initiatives;

  • Providing input to the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) and donors around the prevention of sexual exploitation and facilitating activities of InterAction members around this issue;

  • Advocating for policies, funding and programming that address protection needs.
