Jeanne Paradis handles working group management, media outreach, and writing at InterAction.  She first joined InterAction in February 2011 as a communications intern before being hired in the spring of 2011 as an administrative assistant for the Policy and Communications Team.  In March 2012, she took on her current role as Communications Associate.    Before joining InterAction, she interned for Congress and the Connect U.S. Fund.

Jeanne graduated magna cum laude from Mount Holyoke College with a degree in Politics and English.  While in college, she worked for her school newspaper and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.  Her senior thesis examined the implications of the financial crisis of 2008 on European Union membership.  She spent her junior year abroad in Ireland.

NGOs Partner with UPS to Aid Sahel

This morning 156,394 pounds of relief supplies headed to Bamako, Mali as part of InterAction members’ ongoing effort to address the crisis in the Sahel. The global logistics company, UPS, coordinated the effort which brought food, shelter, medical supplies and water purification kits to the Sahel.

These water purification kits will help NGOs address the cholera outbreak in Mali. According to an August 14 OCHA report, there are 140 recorded cases of cholera in Mali, with 11 deaths.

Droughts and rising food prices are contributing to an escalating hunger crisis in the Sahel, a region in West Africa. More than18 million people lack access to sufficient food and more than 1 million children under the age of 5 are at risk of dying from malnutrition. Yet, with sufficient resources a crisis can be averted.

President Obama's New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition

Ahead of the G8, President Barack Obama presented a food security partnership, The New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition, which aims to lifting 50 million people out of poverty in the next 10 years. The New Alliance will bring together governments and the private sector in order to tackle the challenge of global hunger and malnutrition.  Yet, for this partnership to work and really  help the world’s poorest, civil society must be included.

Millions to One Billion: How to Scale Up Agriculture Without Magnifying Problems

Expanding on the need to be more efficient—a growing theme of Forum 2012—the workshop examined how to scale up agriculture without making existing problems bigger.

Minh Nguyet Le, country representative from Oxfam America in Vietnam, talked about the work she is doing there which focuses on rice production and is based on the principle that small farmers can create big change.  Indeed, the project shows this to be true with participating farmers experiencing a $95-$200 increase per month per acre, all with a decrease in input.
