Mohamed Hilmi
Hilmi is a humanitarian shelter and reconstruction specialist. Currently, he is managing the humanitarian Shelter and Settlement Working Group at InterAction, to collectively improve the collaboration, capacity and practice of stakeholders who respond to humanitarian disasters and crises.
Previously, he has worked for UN Agencies and INGOs in complex humanitarian emergencies and development programs. He has responded to emergencies such as the conflict and famine in Somalia, post-genocide refugee crisis in Tanzania/Rwanda, Asian tsunami, cyclone Sidr in Bangladesh, Haiti, Eretria, Yemen, Lebanon, and Sudan. He has also managed several large infrastructure and reconstruction programs in the MENA region. In the private sector, he has worked for Shell Petroleum in Singapore and with SAIC on a US Government chemical demilitarization project in Maryland. He has a ME from University of Canterbury in New Zealand and a BE from University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka specializing in Engineering and Project Management Systems.
