As online coordinator, Erin is primarily responsible for InterAction's website content and strategy. Her duties include creating and coordinating online materials about InterAction members and issue areas, as well as collaborating with colleagues on integrated campaigns with digital components. In addition, she assists InterAction's policy staff on communications-related efforts.

Erin first joined InterAction as a communications fellow with the mapping team, after graduating from the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service with a Master's of Public Service in May of 2012. Through her graduate program, she worked with the United Nations IRIN news service in Bangkok and with Search for Common Ground, a conflict transformation NGO, in Jakarta. Previously, she worked as a reporter at The Birmingham News, covering immigration and local government. She holds a B.S. in journalism from Northwestern University.

Child mortality rate declines sharply

About 14,000 fewer children under age five die each day than did two decades ago, according to a report released Sept. 12 by three United Nations agencies and the World Bank.

The drop -- from 12 million deaths in 1990 to 6.9 million in 2011 -- represents a 41 percent decline in child mortality worldwide and cuts across countries by income level. 

Refugees Flee Syria in Greater Numbers

More than 100,000 refugees fled Syria in August amid reports of escalated violence—the largest monthly exodus since the crisis began in March 2011, according to the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). Now more than 235,500 people have registered or are awaiting registration as refugees, mostly in neighboring Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq. The figure includes Iraqis who had previously fled to Syria and are now returning home, a UN refugee agency spokeswoman told reporters Tuesday in Geneva.
