Policy & Advocacy

InterAction is the nation’s leading policy advocate for international humanitarian relief and development programs. Using the collective voice of our nearly 200 member non-governmental organizations (NGOs), InterAction shapes important U.S. and international policy decisions on relief and long-term development issues. These issues include foreign assistance, global health, food security, nutrition, water, climate change and education.

Budget and Appropriations

Encouraging robust U.S. government investment in humanitarian and poverty-focused development assistance programs is one of InterAction’s core priorities.  Find our in-depth budget table and learn more about the current appropriations debates in Washington, as well as about sequestration. Contact your member of Congress or get involved in our #NotJustNumbers campaign urging lawmakers to support robust foreign assistance.

Development Policy

InterAction leads, supports and mobilizes its members to take collective action, improve the impact of their programs, increase their global reach and advocate for efforts that advance human well-being around the world.

Foreign Assistance Reform

InterAction plays a leading role in advocating for greater coherence, coordination, elevation and effectiveness of U.S. international humanitarian and development programs. Learn more about our efforts at home and abroad to improve our foreign assistance programs.

G8/G20

Our global partnerships enable InterAction to take a lead role in shaping the broader international development and humanitarian debate. InterAction facilitates and coordinates the G8/G20 Advocacy Alliance of U.S. NGOs. There is both Alliance and individual NGO advocacy on  the agenda of annual G8 and G20 summits.

InterAction’s Foreign Assistance Briefing Book, published at the beginning of every new Congress, reflects our community’s wealth of experience and best thinking on the issues and key areas affecting international relief and development. Choose to Invest in Development & Humanitarian Relief FY2014 offers recommendations to lawmakers on funding for poverty-focused and humanitarian accounts.
