Hewlett Foundation Names New President

Larry Kramer, the dean of Stanford University Law School, has been selected as the next president of the Hewlett Foundation. During his time at Standford, Kramer initiated legal education projects in Afghanistan, Bhutan, Kurdistan and East Timor. He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Equal Justice Works, an organization that provide legal assistance and training to support underserved communities.

The Hewlett Foundation provides grants to counter the social, health and environmental challenges in the United States and around the world. The foundation targets activities including education, global development and population and philanthropy. An international search for candidates was conducted after current president Paul Brest announced his resignation in 2011. Kramer replaces Brest in September.
