InterAction 2014 Farm Bill Update

On January 29, 2014, the House passed the farm bill, or The Agricultural Act of 2014 (H.R. 2642), by a vote of 251-166; on February 4, 2014, the Senate passed the farm bill by a vote of 68-32.  The President signed the bill into law on February 7, 2014.  The five-year bill is expected to save approximately $16.6 billion over the next 10 years and, among its 12 separate titles, authorizes farm programs, domestic hunger programs, and international food aid programs.

The trade title of the bill, which authorizes Food for Peace Title II, McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition, and other international food assistance programs through 2018, contains some changes when compared to the 2008 farm bill.
