Urgent Action Desperately Needed to Prevent Spread of Ebola

InterAction Statement Supporting Ebola Emergency Appropriations Request

The outbreak of Ebola virus disease in West Africa is the worst the world has ever seen. It threatens to become a crisis of epic proportions, affecting not only those countries currently most impacted, but those in the surrounding region and potentially beyond. Mali – neighbor to Guinea – has already confirmed six deaths and hundreds of other individuals are being monitored for symptoms.

As with all epidemics, the best way to prevent Ebola from spreading is to stop it at the source of the current outbreak. That means investments must continue to be focused on response to the epidemic in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. Measures to mitigate the risks in the U.S. have been effective and should continue to be supported.
