Why Focus on Translating Research to Action?

The humanitarian landscape has changed dramatically over the past few years, bringing crises and conflict of increasing scale, severity, and complexity. Though more people are affected by humanitarian conflict and crisis than ever before, the humanitarian system is not able to meet these needs. One reason for this is that the humanitarian system does not adequately use available evidence in program design. The IRC has an ongoing organizational initiative called the Outcomes and Evidence Framework, which presents organizational priorities in terms of outcomes we seek to achieve (rather than interventions we seek to deliver) alongside the best available evidence we have for how to achieve them. This presentation by Anjuli Shivshanker of the International Rescue Committee was made during the first webinar in a learning and knowledge management webinar series. The webinar took place on May 21, 2015.
