Together Project Third Annual Solidarity Breakfast

Countering the Harm: Defending Civil Society at Home & Abroad

Civil society is a vital component in cross-sectoral approaches to build resilient communities, assist governments in responding to humanitarian crises, and enable engaged and citizen-responsive societies. The exponential effect of displaying a united front when civil society is attacked often extends beyond the support to a specific organization, but deepens the public morale and strengthens the posture for the entire sector domestically and abroad. Since 2017, the Together Project has served as a hub of advocacy and solidarity for U.S.-based NGOs that confront discrimination or targeted regulations in the U.S. due to their operating principles or religious faith.

Please join us as we hear from a panel of distinguished leaders speaking to the strategic and operational implications of attacks facing civil society organizations today and their perspectives on developing sustainable solutions to address closing civil society space.

Panelists Include:

  • Halil Demir, Executive Director, Zakat Foundation of America
  • Mark Hetfield, President and CEO, HIAS
  • Åsa Månsson, Programme Director, International Civil Society Centre (Berlin)
  • Sarah Margon, Director, U.S. Foreign Policy, Open Society Foundations

Invitation open to the public; Breakfast will be provided.
