A Powerful Message Can Change the World

Tuesday, June 12, 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.

Sponsored by Together Project

Figuring out how to tell the stories of our day-to-day work is one of the biggest challenges we face as advocates and leaders. This session begins with the fundamentals a compelling message and then moves into the two most common ways we use messaging: in presentations -- from keynote speeches to small-group conversations -- and in media interviews. The first half of the session includes an interactive presentation and exercises and the second half is devoted to an open discussion of challenges facing you in the work you do every day. Come prepared with an open mind as well as any existing or future projects that you believe would benefit from this workshop.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Tell the story of your work in a way that moves and persuades your audience.
  • Create powerful presentations -- including slide shows -- that leave your audience with a clear understanding of what you want them to know.
  • Be able to navigate tricky interviews with reporters, bloggers or anyone with a smartphone and Twitter account!

Collective Problem-Solving

Tuesday, June 12, 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

Sponsored by NGO Futures

Graduate from a norm of figuring it all out on your own. This workshop addresses diagnosing and solving problems, active listening and effective communication: all capacities important for organizations constantly weighing decisions and priorities. Though we face challenges that may feel uniquely our own, we are all surrounded by collective wisdom, complementary experiences and catalytic inspiration. Through working in small peer groups guided by a specific peer consulting methodology, you will get outside of your internal dialogue, gain clarity on the issues you are facing and access the gifts of collective wisdom within your organization.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn a specific methodology for diagnosing and solving problems that can be used routinely in your nonprofit and in the other realms of your life
  • Get assertive, pragmatic help on your current challenges
  • Advance team and organizational norms of peer support and problem-solving
  • Build the necessary habit of asking for and receiving support for yourself

This workshop is a partnership between InterAction and Good Wolf Group, a partner of InterAction that focuses on leadership, business, and personal development.
