United We Stand: A Preview of InterAction Forum 2017

Amid rapid changes and increased uncertainty here in the U.S. and around the world, the needs of and demands upon our community are also shifting. Driving forces include political transitions, mass migration across borders and within countriesethical questions raised by rapidly advancing technology, and the continued threat of climate change. InterAction Forum 2017, with the theme of “United We Stand,” is our essential space to come together as a community and to reaffirm our collective core values and missions in order to improve lives and livelihoods around the world in these changing times.

As internationalists, InterAction, our members, and our partners are committed to improving the world, underscored by our belief that staying connected is the only way to advance human well-being. For Forum 2017, we are excited that former U.S. President Bill Clinton will kick off our annual event with a keynote speech drawing on his philanthropic work that has helped millions across the globe. Joyce Banda, former President of the Republic of Malawi, and Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, will also join us during our opening plenary session for a discussion that will touch on how we can continue promoting human dignity and progress through our organizations and the institutions we value.

A diverse number of international activists, NGO leaders, and innovators will lead other high-level plenary sessions during Forum to help advance solutions and action on “The Changing Dynamics of Migration,” “The Human Side of Technology,” and “Navigating the New Washington.” Through debate, dialogue and demonstrations of new technology, the plenaries will no doubt prove inspiring. We hope to see you there because we value your wisdom and expertise as we set our agenda going forward.

Forum is also an invaluable opportunity to strengthen your professional and personal bonds, learn from thought leaders, activists and peers, and celebrate the contributions and leadership of our sector’s trailblazers. As one of the largest gatherings of international development and humanitarian professionals, we offer an array of breakout sessions across topics and issue areas. New and renewed conversations and connections will help reinforce our collective strength and inspiration as we face an unprecedented future. Please join us from June 20 – 22 in Washington, DC for InterAction Forum 2017. If you have not yet had a chance to register, you may do so on-site.
