Hurricane Harvey made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane near the city of Corpus Christi in southeastern Texas on Friday, cutting power to at least two-thirds of its 325,000 residents and damaging buildings in its path. Houston is being inundated with “unprecedented” flooding after the ferocious Hurricane Harvey set in over the Texas Gulf Coast this weekend, dumping torrential rain on the city with no end in sight for days.” This event is unprecedented & all impacts are unknown & beyond anything experienced. Follow orders from officials to ensure safety,” The National Weather Service (NWS) said Sunday morning.

According to The National Hurricane Center, at least 50 inches of rain has fallen in some areas, and one meteorologist estimated some 340 billion gallons of rainfall inundated the area.

The storm made landfall at 10 p.m. Central Time on Friday with 130 mph winds — the first Category 4 storm to hit the United States since Charley in 2004.
