Supporting Refugees’ Right to, Access to, and Conditions of Work

Submitted by Christina Tobias-Nahi, the director of public affairs at Islamic Relief USA.

Today, around 60 million people are displaced as a result of changing climate conditions, slow or onset natural disasters, and conflict around the globe. This is an unprecedented, historical number not seen since World War II.  About 20 million of these displaced individuals have been forced out of their home countries and are now classified as refugees. What is more, half of all refugees today are in “protracted refugee situations,” lasting for at least 25 years.

The Forgotten Crises

We must ensure that all people – regardless of where they are born – have the ability to live happy, healthy, and safe lives. It is critical for the media, governments, and individuals to focus on the massive scale of human suffering in Middle East and Europe. But we must not limit our focus. We must not ignore people in Africa who are forced to flee from their homes due to violence and conflict.

Top Ten Online Advocacy Mistakes

Submitted by Colin Delany, founder and editor of Epolitics.com

Do you want to succeed at online advocacy? Of course you do! Fortunately, thousands of us have been toiling away in this field for years. In the process, we've done just about everything wrong you can imagine. But you don't have to repeat our errors. Check out ten of my favorite mistakes nonprofits often make when they approach online advocacy.

Three Myths about Passion that are Keeping you Stuck

Submitted by Stacy Campesi, CPC, ELI-MP, SLC Coaching.

As a leadership coach, "passion" is a word I hear often in my conversations with clients. It shows up in in all sorts of ways, but most often sounds something like, “I have no idea what I want to do with my life, and I need someone to help me find my passion." After working with dozens of young professionals in the non-profit world, I've found that there are three big myths that keep them from feeling fulfilled and happy in their careers.

So, What Does It All Add Up To?

Submitted by Carlisle Levine, Sherine Jayawickrama, and Tosca Bruno-van Vijfeijken.

International NGOs have well-established practices for measuring results at the project and program level. But how to measure results at an agency level across numerous countries, sectors and projects? What does it all add up to? Are there meaningful, cost-effective ways to tell?

Think small: What is the future for small NGOs?

Submitted by Bill Abrams, president of Trickle Up

In December 2013, I attended an InterAction CEO Retreat presentation on a study by consulting firm FSG called “Ahead of the Curve: Insights for the International NGO of the Future.”  It was an interesting, thoughtful study but, frankly, I was annoyed.  Its sole focus was big NGOs; all of the consultants’ interviews were with representatives of the 50 largest U.S. NGOs.

Engaging Across Humanitarian and Development Sectors

I began working at InterAction six months ago, and I am excited to be at an organization with members that support the poorest and most disadvantaged around the world. I have found that InterAction is aptly named, as it connects people working in multiple and diverse sectors on incredibly important issues. As a new arrival, I am eager to participate in InterAction’s Forum in April and discuss the critical issues the non-profit community faces with InterAction’s diverse membership.

The Inside Scoop: What CEOs Are Discussing at Forum 2016

As you walk to your next workshop at Forum 2016, you may come across a sign that reads “For CEOs Only” and wonder – who is in that room? What are they discussing in there?

As someone who has helped coordinate exclusive CEO workshops and networking lunches, I am excited to provide a peek inside the world of the CEO Track.
